INTRODUCTION TO TYING A NECKTIE KNOT

While there are many different types of ways to tie a knot there are 3 knots that are most commonly used.

Below we have listed these methods as well as some guidelines as to when you would use the knot.

You can click on the title of each knot and a page will open illustrating in pictures and words each step in tying the knot. You can print this page to make it more accessible.

Four – In – Hand Knot ( Recommended )

This is one of the easiest knots to tie as well as being the most fashionable. This knot can be pulled tight for the person who likes a small knot or can be loosely tied ( by not pulling the knot tight ).
The loosely tied Four – In – Hand is a very fashionable European way of knotting a tie.

Full Windsor Knot

This is the older traditional way of making a knot. Because of the number of times the fabric is looped before finally tucking and pulling the style typically makes a large knot. The advantage of this knot is it’s evenness on both sides one tied. ( Taking the form of an upside-down triangle. )

Half Windsor Knot

Similar to the Full Windsor this type of knot also requires looping the fabric a couple of times therefore making for a large knot, just a bit smaller than the Full Windsor. ( Taking the form of an upside-down triangle. )

Self Tie Bow Tie

Similar to the Pre Tied bow the wearer of this style needs to make the knot itself. While many people say it’s similar to tying your it is a bit more complicated and with a bit of practice can be mastered by anyone.
